Deputy President

About Me

Hello everyone!

My name is Jackson, and I am your Deputy President for Students’ Union here at City University. I am an Electrical and Electronic Engineering Graduate with a passion for technology. I love to watch K-dramas and listen to K-pop. I like to game in my free time and go to the gym.

During my time being a student, I have participated in many social and academic activities. I was the president of the City Anime Society in which I hosted many events such as game nights, movie nights and even got discounted Comic-Con tickets. I had the opportunity to represent the perspectives and concerns of fellow students within the university and my course by being an assembly member and a student representative. By voicing these issues, we were able to implement changes that brought smiles to the faces of our fellow students. This included: reduction in lecture content, providing full solutions to questions to extending deadlines and many more.

I hope to make many positive changes for all students across City University during my time as a Deputy President and can’t wait to meet you all!

WHAT I'M WORKING ON

Improving Communciation between the Schools and Students.

Improving Communciation between the Schools and Students.

in progress

One of my priorities is to improve the communication between the schools and the students. During my time at university, I found that the relationship between the schools and students was lacking. I believe that having better communication between the students and staff will allow learning to be enhanced and make students excel in their studies. I plan to make sure that there is enough guidance on how to tackle exams and the permitted calculators/rules that must be followed.

In addition, I want to make all lectures more interactive by having the lecturers engage with the students more and not just reading off the PowerPoint slides.

Lastly, I want to provide better personal tutors for students in which they can be trained to sign post students to the right department regarding their needs and provide better support such as tips on academic related stuff or careers. They should also be paired up with students that have similar course background.

Creating More Fun and Exciting Events

in progress

My second priority is to create more fun and exciting events that brings students from all schools together and make new friends. I aim to provide free sporting events that are not sweaty and serious but a social activity for people to connect with.

In addition, I want to make sure all societies within the Students’ Union are active by monitoring societies and recruiting new committee members if necessary. This way students can enjoy a fulfilling university life by participating in extracurricular activities without having the financial burden to pay for sports.

Provide More Support For Students Affected By The Cost-Of-Living Crisis

in progress

My final priority is to provide more support for students being affected by the cost-of-living crisis happening currently. I will explore the current funding options we have and see if more money can be put into these options.

In addition, I want to provide more accessible scholarships and bursaries that have lower and better eligibility criteria’s so more students can apply. These students include those who are estranged, have low household income, caring responsibilities, working multiple jobs to keep up with bills etc and others that are affected by the crisis.
