Supporting students on placement
What is this campaign about?
Our healthcare students have been impacted by the pandemic more than most. As an SU, we recognise this and want to direct our efforts to ensure that our healthcare students are made to feel appreciated and are protected whilst they are on placement.
What is the purpose of the campaign?
We want to ensure that our SHS students feel that they are valued members of the City community as well as the NHS.
Healthcare students are not entitled to the same health insurance as NHS clinical staff, although they put themselves at a comparable risk when interacting with COVID-19 patients. We want to lobby for this to be changed. We also want to provide our SHS students with a gift box to remind them that their work on the front lines is appreciated.
What progress has been made so far?
- We have begun conversations with the SHS Dean, Debra Salmon to discuss this, but if you have any suggestions then please do let us know via the Big Ideas platform!
- Debra has been working hard to ensure that our SHS students who are working with COVID-19 patients are a priority for getting vaccinated. We encourage all our SHS students to get the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination if they have the opportunity. Please find more information about the vaccine here: Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine - NHS (www.nhs.uk).
