Students' Union Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update (13/03/20)

This information is accurate at the time of publication 15.30 on Friday 13 March 2020.

Following the escalation of the UK’s response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) yesterday afternoon, we have taken the decision to alter, postpone or cancel future City Students’ Union events where appropriate based on the current health situation in order to protect the best interests of our students, staff and guests.

Voting for the 2020 Leadership Elections will still go ahead, candidates are still free to campaign, however will be provided with additional guidance and the vote will open on Monday 16 March 2020 (online). We have taken the decision to not operate polling/voting booths across campus and that voting will take place entirely online. You can vote online from Monday at 9am: citystudents.co.uk/elections.

Elections Candidate Question Time planned for Monday 16 March has been cancelled, additional candidate promotion will be shared on Union social media accounts @CityUniSU (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram) and the website citystudents.co.uk.

Election Results Night planned for Friday 20 March has been cancelled and results will be announced via video on the evening of Friday 20 March 2020, this will be published on our Facebook page (time TBC).

Election candidates will be contacted this afternoon by the Deputy Returning Officer with information about these changes.

Student Council planned for 5pm Tuesday 24 March is currently being reviewed and further communication will follow.

The 25th City Students’ Union Awards planned for Thursday 26 March have been postponed, we will continue to monitor the situation and we hope to find a suitable date to hold the awards in the near future.

Society Events – Societies will be contacted by the Activities Team to review their events to limit the potential spread of Coronavirus and make suitable adjustments or postpone/cancel.

Student Group Committees will be emailed with advice and guidelines on Society Event.

The Union Advice Service will continue to offer appointments and these should be booked via the case form. Students can still attend face-to-face appointments. We offer telephone appointments and would encourage students to consider using this option for their appointment. Appointments may be moved online if required in the future.

The remainder of City Students’ Union continues to operate as normal, with additional precautionary measures in place. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us by emailing studentsunion@city.ac.uk. We will continue to review the Students’ Union services regularly and will keep you updated via our website and email of any changes.

Your health and wellbeing is of the upmost importance to us as our members. This why the Students’ Union President (Tuna Kunt) is working with and lobbying the University to take immediate action regarding teaching and assessments.

For more information regarding Coronavirus and the steps that City, University of London are taking, please visit the Student Hub and keep a check on your student email account for the latest updates.

The Government is now asking anyone with a new persistent cough or high temperature (37.8 or higher) to self-isolate for seven days. This is regardless of whether they have travelled to affected areas. You can find further guidance on the NHS website and on the Government's coronavirus page.
