Micro Placements Programme (MPP) 2022/2023 Impact Report

As the academic year unfolds, we wanted to share the progress and impact of the Micro Placements Programme (MPP) Projects undertaken by 18 students during the summer of 2023. These students chose their MPP project, working to enhance various aspects of our Students’ Union (SU), and wider City University of London processes and structures.

Here is an update on their accomplishments and the positive changes they have initiated:

 

Assembly Priority Bronze (Cost of Living)

Key Objectives:

- Increase funding in travel bursary

- Cost of Living Fair

 

Progress to Date:

- City's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) is reviewing the Travel Bursary based on research findings, which will benefit more commuting students.

- The Cost-of-Living Support Hub took place on October 10th 2023, featuring stalls from the Student Health & Wellbeing Team, Unitemps, City Funding Team, Union Advice, and many more. To read more about the event and to access further support, read our article here.

 

Cost of Living:

Key Objectives:

- Introduce an affordable bike scheme

- Daily Affordable hot breakfast club options

 

Progress to Date:

- New initiative with support from Yavus, Deputy President, a £11.70/month bike subscription and £10 cashback for helmets.

- Grayson's, the University’s catering company is looking at providing a small hot drink and a pastry for £3.50 available in all Grayson's cafes until 10am

 

SU Academic Misconduct Campaign

Key Objectives:

- Improve information on the SU website around Academic Misconducts

- Student Exam Kit

- AM Contest/Quiz

- AM Meme/Poster Contest

- Christmas AM Campaign


Progress to Date:

Some proposals have been made, and ideas suggested. The Academic Integrity working group is formulating plans for implementation in 2024.

 

Welcome Week – International Students

Key Objectives:

- Party or Gathering for International Students

- Food Festival

- London Outing

- Info event for International Students

 

Progress to Date:

All events will be planned to take place 2024/2025, with plans for continuation in the future.

 

 

This is not the whole list of projects, only those that have confirmed progress. We will be back with another impact report towards the end of the academic year, stay posted!

The SU would like to thank the students on their hard work, as they produced great work that advances the goals of the SU. Their key objectives have directly impacted student life, encouraged positive changes, and contributed to a more vibrant and inclusive community. We look forward to seeing the continued positive effects in the coming years.
