Ways to get involved in RAG

There are several ways that students can get involved in charity fundraising at City:

  • Join the RAG Team

Any student can join the RAG Team, which is led by the RAG Board and offers opportunities to volunteer at charity events and collections. You can sign up to be a RAG Team Member for one academic year and then volunteer for as many or as few RAG events as you have time for. Most of the official RAG Events will take place in a RAG Week, and you will receive information about 'one-off' volunteering opportunities a few weeks in advance of this exciting week of activities.

Official RAG Events include:

RAG Challenges - During RAG Week, many RAG Team members set themselves a personal challenge (shave all of your hair off, go a whole week without Facebook, complete a 10km run etc.) and obtain sponsorship from friends, family, and others to raise funds

RAG Events - The RAG Board organise social events and games/challenges that RAG Team Members can volunteer to help out at, everything from an international tabletennis tournament, to a chance to soak your friends by throwing wet sponges

RAG Raids - Raids are charity bucket collections where students dress up in fancy dress and ask passers by for donations. These can take place on campus or in busy public spaces in London and beyond

RAG Special Activities - Want to climb Kilimanjaro? Do a skydive? Be part of an epic team upstairs-race? Donating and re-selling second hand clothes? RAG Week activities are varied and new ideas are popping up all of the time. Find out about our exciting activities by joining the team early!

  • Become a RAG Project Organiser

Want to run your own charity pub quiz? A pool tournament? A mass sponsored challenge event? Another fun, low-cost activity which could collect a lot of money for a good cause? City Students' Union may be able to support your charitable project. A RAG Project is an autonomous student-led activity (or a society-led activity) set up to support a particular charity. A RAG project might run just one charity fundraising event, or might raise money through multiple collection activities for a period of up to 3 months.

  • Join a RAG Group, or start a new one

City Students’ Union supports 80+ Student Groups, including some some groups with a focus on charity fundraising. New Student Group applications are accepted through the year and groups can be set up within a couple of months during term time. Any 3 current students may apply to set up a new RAG Group.

RAG Groups are registered student groups dedicated to supporting a particular charity or cause, by fundraising for them through on campus activities. They recruit members to volunteer and hold elections for their leadership positions, and they can apply for funding through the Students’ Union to develop their communities of students.

  • Become a RAG Rep

The RAG Board is involved in choosing and organising central RAG activities including some of the bigger, better fundraising initiatives which the Students’ Union runs, especially during RAG Week, a week of dedicated student-led charity fundraising initiatives. In addition to the RAG Officer and the Vice President Activities & Development, it also includes 5 RAG Reps, each with a specific portfolio.

The RAG Board accepts new applications for RAG Reps during May/June
