The City PhD Society is brand new, and one of its kind!

The Society is for all Doctoral Researchers and seeks to: 

- Create a network for academic/practical support and exchange;

- Build a Cross-Departmental Community of Doctoral Researchers;

- Establish local, regional, national, and international networks;

- Help with overall mental health, battling those side effects that often come with undertaking a PhD, such as loneliness or increased stress;

- Reach out across the Doctoral Community at City, and encourage the participation of people who may not have been involved in it; 

- Ensure the safety and self-expression of everyone, especially of those who are often excluded and/or isolated, thus creating a safe and open Doctoral Community;

- Give Doctoral Researchers a voice as a collective, advocating for their rights and needs within the University.

We aim to make as many events, and activities, as possible hybrid (both in-person and online), in order to engage with the wide Doctoral community across the University, and beyond, offering the opportunity to many to benefit from the Society’s activities/events, thus becoming integrated members of the Doctoral environment at City, University of London.

Meet the Team
 

FLAVIO FELLICA (He/Him), President

Flavio is a third-year PhD researcher at the School of Communication and Creativity, in the newly formed Department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries at City, University of London. His research looks at the formation of specific regimes, in three moderately integrated European territories, and the impact (if any) of both, Brexit and COVID-19, upon them.

Hobbies: Travelling, Cooking
Fun Fact: When Flavio was 5 he crashed his bike into a garage when going down a ramp and the imprint of his body can still be seen on the garage almost 30 years later.

DARIA EFIMOVA (She/Her), Vice President

Daria is a first-year PhD researcher at the City Law School. Her research focuses on interim measures in international arbitration. It is meant to be a comparative study of how effective existing approaches are in practice and how they can be improved to meet the growing demand for predictability in arbitration.

Favourite Film: Andrei Tarkovsky - Mirror 
Favourite Book: Vladimir Nabokov - Lolita
Pets: Hedgehog Stepan and Yorkshire terrier Hardy
Hobbies: Contemporary art (1950s-present day). I also have recently started trying my hand at drawing and knitting. 
Fun Fact: While everyone is smiling at the kitties on Instagram, I'm a fan of bears.
