Food Safety

If you wish to offer food at your events you need to be aware of Food Safety requirements and also where you are permitted to have food on University grounds.

Here is where you can have events with food:

  • City Bar
  • Courtyard Cafe
  • Canteen
  • OTLT Foyer

Here is where you can't have events with food:

  • Teaching Rooms (snacks only)
  • Great Hall (no food, drinks reception in foyer only)

If you are serving food or drink on campus make sure all the following requirements are met:

  • All food surfaces, equipment, and utensils are clean and suitable for use.
  • Food on display for sale should be protected from contamination, ie covered.
  • Food must not be stored on the floor.
  • Ready to eat food and drink products must be stored suitably.
  • All waste should be bagged properly and disposed of in an appropriate manner.
  • All parts of person and clothing should be clean.
  • Sores, cuts or abrasions should be properly treated and covered. Any wounds likely to cause High risk food predominately refers to dairy but also any food or drink that must be kept at a constant temperature.
  • All high risk foods must be catered by Sodexo/Lexington.

Catering Providers

No hot food is permitted to be supplied or served by students and external caters must only be used if contracted catering companies at the Univeristy are not able to provide the service you require. Student groups can cater snacks only (crisps and nibbles) all other catering should be ordered through either Sodexo (Northampton Square) or Lexington (Cass). 

We have worked withthese companies to provide a Societies menu for our student groups only! Email your order to your SU staff to order something from these menus.

You must also clearly label all foods that are being given out for ingredients, allergens and that they are homemade.
